These small, long-tailed lapines appear defenseless, but when captured they can emit a loud, high pitched scream that causes painful ear damage to the attacker and anyone else in the local vicinity. If that should fail, then the raju is a surprisingly brave fighter, making up for its size with incredible tenacity.
Raju are social creatures that live in extensive warrens much like their natural cousins. A limited ability to climb has led to some people calling them hybrids of rabbits and squirrels, and some legends claim this as their origin. The social structure of raju warrens is complex, with some peacefully coexisting whilst others tear one another apart in disturbingly bloody scenes.
The name "raju" is similar to the Toxiliviti word for the colour black, roju, hence they are sometimes called "black rabbits".
